With a lifetime passion for empowering people with disabilities to live well, independently, I am delighted to lead an organisation which makes such a real, tangible difference to people. Having previously run another national charity, and served as a trustee of several charities, I have seen how even a modest grant can transform a desperate situation and bring hope. I am only too well aware that the needs are great. A fundraising and communications professional by background, I am regarded as an innovative strategic leader of charities, campaigns and causes.

I began my career in the commercial sector and spent 13 years working as an accountant in the IT industry. I then worked with a variety of charities. I joined IAH as Chief Finance Officer in 2020 following a career break whilst bringing up my children. I feel very fortunate to be working for a charity that helps make a positive difference to the daily lives of people living with disability.

Twenty eight years with the NHS dealing with patients and relatives, and direct family experience of the effects of physical and mental disability lead me to this role, which I love. I can see that our grants help with reablement, dignity and comfort in our clients’ daily lives.

When I first began working for IAH 30 years ago I only worked for 4 hours a week when my children were young. Over the years my hours and role have expanded, and I am now the Grants & Database Manager working over 20 hours a week. Sending out grants to our clients every week and reading all the cases makes me realise what a worthwhile service we offer to long-term ill and disabled people to enable them to remain in their own homes. I feel very privileged to work for IAH helping so many people live a more comfortable life.

Having worked in IT for commercial Computer and Communication companies for most of my career it is particularly pleasing to put my experience to use with a charity whose aim is to make life more bearable for those with limiting disabilities. IAH is exceptional in that all donations are used solely for grants and these go directly for the benefit of clients. I am happy to be able to provide system support at a time of rapid technological change which will enable IAH to maintain its edge.

I have worked in the charity sector for 25 years in senior grant-making and trust fundraising roles. I joined Independence at Home in Autumn 2019. My role is focussed on researching new trusts and the careful stewardship of valued existing funders to support the development of our grant-making, enabling more people living with long-term illness and disabilities to live an active and independent life, free from isolation.
