Privacy Policy

IAH Charity Company Limited, trading as Independence at Home, is a charity registered in England and Wales, registered number 1141758. As a custodian of personal information, Independence at Home recognizes the importance of handling personal information securely and appropriately, and to that end, has developed a Data Protection Policy to meet its obligations as a Data Controller under the Data Protection Act 2018 and related statutory instruments including the GDPR, (General Data Protection Regulation).

If you make a donation to Independence at Home, or apply to us for a charitable grant, we will use your information in line with our Privacy Policy, as outlined here, and our Data Protection Policy.

Charitable Grants

When you apply for a charitable grant from Independence at Home, we will use the information that you provide through our application process. The information we collect includes personal details which allow us to assess applications, administer grants and for impact measurement purposes. This is how we carry out our functions, and is derived from our legitimate interest as a charity, providing grants to individuals with long term illness or disability, who are in financial need. The information will be processed by our small team of staff. We may share your information with, or obtain your information from, referring organisations which are working on your behalf to apply for a grant from us. We may need to share your information with suppliers who are fulfilling equipment orders related to a charitable grant. We will also share the information in anonymised summary form with our charitable donors when we report on how we have used their donations to fund our charitable grants. We will seek your consent in respect of personal health information we collect as part of our application process.

Donations

If you make a donation to Independence at Home, we will collect personal contact details, including your name and address. If you are able to gift aid your donation we will also retain your gift aid declaration. We will not share this information with anyone else, other than HMRC in respect of gift-aided donations, in order to meet our legal obligations. We will retain the information you provide for a period of 6 years after the financial year in which you provided the information to us, in respect of charitable grants. We will retain donor information for 10 years following the date of your last donation, and gift aid declarations for 6 years after the last eligible donation. You have the right to request a copy of the information we hold about you. If you would like to make a request, please email or write to us at the following address. We will try to ensure your personal information remains accurate and up to date, and you may ask us to correct or remove information found to be inaccurate. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (“ICO”) if you believe there is a problem in the way we have handled your information.
